East Texas high school football player shot dead at Mardi Gras parade in Shreveport

Kip Lewis, 17, attended Elysian Fields High School. EFISD said all schools will be closed when the teen’s funeral takes place on Thursday.

ELYSIAN FIELDS, Texas. The funeral of the East Texas teenager who was shot during the Mardi Gras parade in Shreveport will take place on Thursday morning.

Kip Lewis, 17, of Marshall, was gunned down around 5:45 p.m. near Clyde Fant Memorial Parkway during Saturday’s parade, according to KTBS. KTBS reported that Lewis died the same day at a Shreveport hospital.

Lewis was a junior at Elysian Fields High School. The school district announced that the funeral will take place this Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in the auditorium of Elysian Fields High School.

EFISD said all campuses will be closed on Thursday to allow students and staff to attend services.

“Please join us as we continue to keep the Lewis family in our thoughts and prayers. Thank you,” Elysian Fields said in a statement.

In an earlier statement about Lewis, Elysian Fields ISD said the community was heartbroken over his passing.

He is the son of Bradley and Laurie Lewis and the brother of EFHS alumni Makenna and Hannah. Bradley is a member of the EFISD Board of Trustees and Laurie was a longtime second grade teacher at Elysian Fields Elementary School.
