Drunken driver tried to drive over officer in Arlington on Wednesday, local authorities shot him to death

Arlington, Texas – Suspected drunken driver was shot to death on Wednesday after he allegedly headed the vehicle to the officer and tried to kill him.

The incident happened Wednesday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. when local authorities were dispatched at the scene following a 911 call in regards to a drunken driver in a SUV.

When responding officers arrived at the scene, they reportedly saw the vehicle completely stopped in the middle of Pioneer Parkway and slumped over the steering wheel.

In an effort to check on him, the officers approached the vehicle and told him to stay where he was but he took off. They followed the SUV in what appeared to be a low-speed chase.

At one point of the chase, the driver stopped at the middle of the road and officers approached the vehicle again, now in an effort to arrest him for evading. But he took off again.

He stopped a second time in a neighborhood cul-de-sac south of East Arkansas near South Collins Street. Arlington police said that’s when he made a U-turn and started driving toward one of the officers who had gotten out of his vehicle.

Fearing for his life, the officer fired several bullets hitting the driver and leaving him death at the scene.

Following the shooting incident, both officers were put on administrative leave and internal investigation is ongoing.

“There is body worn camera footage. It is being reviewed at this time by our investigators and once our investigators have reviewed the footage it will be released. We will speak with the family and will determine what will be released,” said Sgt. Chris Moore with the Arlington Police Department.

Sgt. Moore didn’t reveal the identity of the driver nor the identities of the officers involved in the incident since the investigation is underway.

Once more details are available, we will update the case.
