Driver Hospitalized After Two-Car Collision
On June 28, 2024, a significant vehicular incident occurred at the intersection of State Highway 70 and Manchester Boulevard in Manchester, NJ, prompting the swift response of officers from the Manchester Township Police Department. The crash involved two vehicles, namely a silver 2021 Hyundai Accent and a blue 2014 Hyundai Elantra, resulting in substantial front-end damage to both automobiles. The driver of the Hyundai Accent, identified as 68-year-old Fredric Mohr from Manchester, NJ, sustained severe internal injuries and was promptly transferred to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, NJ, where he remains in critical but stable condition. Conversely, the driver of the Hyundai Elantra, identified as 37-year-old Michael C. Odom, also from Manchester, NJ, suffered minor injuries and was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River, NJ for treatment.
According to the ongoing investigation into the crash, it was determined that the Hyundai Accent was situated in the left turn lane of westbound State Highway 70, preparing to make a left turn onto Manchester Blvd. Simultaneously, the Hyundai Elantra was traveling eastbound on State Highway 70 towards the intersection. Regrettably, the Hyundai Accent initiated the left turn without yielding to the oncoming Hyundai Elantra, leading to a collision between the two vehicles. The impact caused the Hyundai Accent to rotate approximately 180 degrees before coming to a final stop facing north in the westbound turning lane of State Highway 70, while the Hyundai Elantra ended up facing east on the dirt shoulder of eastbound State Highway 70.
Emergency response units, including Fire Fighters and EMT’s from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Medical Services, as well as Paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, provided crucial assistance at the scene. The primary contributing factor identified in the crash investigation so far is the failure to yield to oncoming traffic. Patrolman Conner Yatauro of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit has been assigned to lead the investigation into this unfortunate incident.
