Driver fatally injured in collision with Austin police officer identified

Austin police have officially identified the deceased driver in a fatal crash involving an on-duty officer as 43-year-old Maria Irene Casillas Reyes. The tragic incident occurred on Friday, June 30 at approximately 5:03 p.m. on US Hwy 183 in North Austin.

Officer Alyssa Preuss, who was also involved in the collision, was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Fortunately, she has since been released.
