Driver dies when Tesla crashes into pool

A woman died on Saturday morning when her Tesla ran off the road in San Rafael and crashed into a residential pool.

The California Highway Patrol in Marina received a call at 7:26 a.m. about a traffic accident involving a single vehicle on the section of Point San Pedro Road, which is east of Highway 101, near Loch Lomond wharf.

CHP said the 2019 Tesla was driving westbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the female driver allowed the Tesla to turn right, hit a fence, and crash into a pool at 44 Bonnie Banks Street.

The driver died at the scene from his injuries. She was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. It is currently unknown if drugs or alcohol were the cause of the collision.

The investigation into this accident is ongoing.
