Driver Dies After Striking 2 Parked Cars Following Medical Episode

A tragic incident occurred in Lake Worth Beach, Florida, as a 79-year-old man lost his life after a potential medical episode caused him to collide with two parked cars. According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO), the unfortunate crash took place at 2:04 p.m. on Saturday at 327 Columbia Drive, situated east of Dixie Highway in Lake Worth Beach.

The victim, identified as Romero Cortez, succumbed to his injuries in the aftermath of the collision. PBSO reported that Cortez was driving a 2019 Chevy Impala heading northbound on North Dixie Highway when he made a wide eastbound turn onto Columbia Drive. Tragically, his vehicle collided with a properly parked 2014 Toyota Corolla located on the north end of the road.

Following the initial collision, the Impala veered onto the sidewalk after striking the curb. Subsequently, it collided with another properly parked vehicle, a 2014 Ford Edge, in the driveway. Both the Toyota Corolla and the Ford Edge came to a rest in the driveway, bearing the marks of the devastating crash.

Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene and transported Cortez to HCA Florida JFK Hospital in Atlantis. Regrettably, medical professionals declared him deceased upon arrival. The precise cause of his death will be determined by a thorough examination performed by the medical examiner.

This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of life and the importance of taking necessary precautions while on the road. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision to gain a comprehensive understanding of what transpired.
