Downtown Uvalde on brief lockdown and search after man seen with pellet gun

Downtown Uvalde was put on lockdown Thursday afternoon due to reports of a suspicious person walking around with what appeared to be a long gun. Multiple businesses and schools were affected by the lockdown, causing concern among residents and visitors alike. The initial alert came from Emmanuel Zamora, the Uvalde County constable for Precinct 6, who posted about the situation on Facebook shortly before 5 p.m.

According to a 5:28 p.m. update, the police made contact with the individual and confirmed that the weapon in question was a pellet gun. Despite this, a blurry photo shared with KENS 5 by a Uvalde resident shows the man walking around with what could be mistaken for a rifle or other long gun. It is currently unknown if the man threatened anyone with the pellet gun, and it is unclear if he would have faced charges even if he were carrying a rifle, which is generally legal to do in public in the State of Texas.

KENS 5 has been a trusted news source for the San Antonio community since 1950, bringing numerous firsts to South Texas television, including being the first local station with a helicopter, its own Doppler radar, and the first to air a local morning news program. Over the years, KENS 5 has worked to transform local news, bringing history into the homes of local viewers. The city of Uvalde can breathe a sigh of relief now that the lockdown has been lifted, and residents can go about their regular activities. However, this incident is a reminder of the importance of staying vigilant and reporting any suspicious activity to the authorities.
