Don Lemon continues unscripted rant after James Comer calls NY Post ‘trustworthy’

This is one bitter lemon.

On Tuesday, CNN This Morning host Don Lemon delivered an unscripted tirade against the New York Post after the Republican chairman of the House Oversight Committee called the paper “credible” for its Hunter Biden laptop rant during an interview with Caitlan Collins. . co-anchor Lemon allegedly scolded, as reported exclusively by The Post last week.

Rep. James Comer (R-KY) discussed the upcoming House investigation into Hunter Biden’s laptop and suggestions from Twitter files that the FBI was targeting stories related to The Post’s crackdown on Biden’s laptop coverage.

Comer accused the FBI of seeking to ban The Post, calling the paper “a credible publication” and the fourth largest newspaper in America. Most of the mainstream media, including CNN, criticized The Post for the laptop before Joe Biden was elected president in 2020.

After Collins, who was conducting the interview from Capitol Hill, brought him back to the New York studio, Lemon became angry.

“This is the time we live in where the facts are kind of flexible and you just throw them in there – quoting unreliable sources like citing The New York Post as a credible source and saying facts are just I can’t believe we’re here,” Lemon said.

Another Lemon co-host Poppy Harlow, who was on set, interrupted the diatribe in an attempt to smooth things over.

“That’s why we have Caitlan Collins on the hill to check the facts in real time. It was a great interview,” she said.

Harlow congratulated Collins, who was in DC to cover Biden’s State of the Union address Tuesday night, before bluntly saying, “Okay, let’s move on!”

The music started playing, so the show could move on to commercials, but Lemon insisted and refused to play backstage.

“Wait, please, with the music,” he bellowed.

Lemon then stated that there is no “common reality” with someone like Comer.

“Americans are going to have to suffer from all of this, from election deniers to people who don’t believe in facts, we don’t have a shared reality. And now it’s taken center stage,” Lemon said, referring to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-GA), who also sits on the Oversight Committee.

Lemon’s outburst came days after The Post reported that he allegedly criticized Collins for cutting him off the air on December 8, which ended with Lemon being allegedly told by his superiors to take a personal time-out the next day. Since then, the couple has hardly appeared together on the set.

It also follows a directive from new CNN boss Chris Licht to stay away from left-wing opinionated coverage that has drowned the network in ratings. Last month, Licht told the Los Angeles Times that his No. 3 cable news network would no longer be a place for “partisan hacking” and “ideological talking points.”

Due to initial coverage by The Post in October 2020, the Twitter account was suspended for more than two weeks. Since then, several publications, including the New York Times, Washington Post and CBS, have confirmed the authenticity of the material from the laptop two years later. Even Lemon’s own CNN confirmed the material in a July 2022 report.
