Dogs will get a Florida license plate

The University of Georgia will soon start appearing on Florida license plates as its supporters hit the pre-sale milestone for a special number.

Legislators approved permission for the use of special plates for the University of Georgia, the University of Alabama and Auburn University if pre-sale requirements are met.

“Auburn can be proud of the fact that they consistently overtake the University of Alabama here on special numbers,” Robert Kinoch, director of motorist services for the Florida Department of Highway and Motor Vehicle Safety, told members of the Senate Transportation Committee Tuesday. “However, Georgia, as well as locally, has already met the pre-sale requirements, and their stove will soon enter the production process here.”

Georgia is the reigning two-time national football champion. Florida has 109 special labels available for sale, 35 of which are in pre-sale.

The law, signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis in June, caps the maximum number of special plaques at any given time to 135, while lowering the pre-sale requirement for three out-of-state universities from 4,000 to 3,000.

As of Tuesday, Auburn’s total pre-sales stood at 2,705 vehicles. There were 1,675 people in Alabama.
