DeSantis addresses Parental Rights in Education Act as he promotes new book

JACKSONVILLE, FL (WSVN) — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis discussed a controversial state law while promoting his new book.

Earlier this week, DeSantis was in Jacksonville promoting a recently published book. “The Courage to Be Free: Florida’s Plan for America’s Resurgence.”

The Governor also addressed the Educational Parental Rights Act, which critics called the Don’t Say Gay Bill before it was passed last year.

State law prohibits public schools from holding “classroom discussions” or “classroom briefings” about sexual orientation or gender identity from kindergarten through third grade.

“And you’ll like first or second grade.” They will write and read and all that,” he said. “You don’t expect any teacher to tell [students] that they were born in the wrong body, or that they could change their gender.”

DeSantis also spoke out against what he called revival and business rhetoric.

The governor is in Dallas on Saturday night, where he gathers a crowd of supporters. His next stop is California on Sunday.

Many speculate that he is paving the way for a possible presidential campaign.
