Deputies find 42,000 fentanyl pills in car during traffic stop in North Texas

A traffic stop in Smith County ended with a man’s arrest when police found 42,000 fentanyl tablets in the car.

Members of a special unit of sheriff’s deputies from 8 different counties stopped a car on I-20 in Smith County on Friday.

MORE: A 22-year-old man believed to be the “primary source” of the fentanyl that killed three Carrollton teenagers has been arrested, the feds said.

The driver, Eric Marin Islas Angeles from Mexico, allowed the police to search his car.

Deputies found 9 pounds of fentanyl tablets in a “fake compartment” in the car. This is approximately 42,000 tablets.

Angeles is being held in jail on $2,000,000 bail.
