Deadline in Fort Myers Beach to remove trash from right-of-way

FORT MYERS BEACH, FL — The Florida Department of Emergency Management (FDEM) has notified the City of Fort Myers Beach that the free sidewalk garbage service that has been in operation since Hurricane Ian will end on March 29th.

March 1st is the last day residents can dump trash off the side of their property for free.

Garbage thrown on the roadside by March 1 will be removed by March 29.

FDEM states that this does not apply to private property owners who have signed up for garbage collection through www.iandebriscleanup.com.

City leaders say that with regards to garbage collection, volunteers involved in the various cleanups that are organized on the beach are being asked to complete the following few steps:

  • Collect rubbish in transparent trash bags.
  • Deliver the garbage bags to the curb to the nearest part of Estero Boulevard. Please keep them away from the street and sidewalk, but keep them within five feet of the sidewalk.
  • The piles must be at least 10 feet away from communications—electric poles and water pipes.
  • Heavy debris and debris that is not safe to be carried or left on the side of the road must be consolidated on the beach and out of the intertidal zone.
  • Provide the approximate location of the combined wreckage, including sending a photo, to Chadd Chust by email at [email protected].
