De Nada Kitchen, Former Cueva Bar, Announces Imminent Closing at San Diego University Heights

January 30, 2023

After nearly 13 years in business, De Nada Kitchen, formerly Cueva Bar, has announced its impending closure at University Heights in San Diego. Chef Oz Blackaller opened Cueva Bar in the fall of 2010, offering an international menu with an emphasis on Latin cuisine. Born and raised in Mexico, Chef Oz moved to San Diego in 2009 with his growing family. It was featured on Cutthroat Kitchen Food Network and also appeared on Chopped. In light of frequently changing precautions during the coronavirus pandemic and other factors, Blackaller renamed his Cueva Bar to De Nada Kitchen & Market in late 2020.

“All shows must end,” Chef Blackaller wrote in a social media post. “As I said goodbye to being a chef, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the memories and dishes I shared in this kitchen. Cooking has always been my passion and I could please your taste buds with my dishes. was an absolute privilege. From the first crunch of the pan to the last stroke of the plate, I cherished every moment spent in this kitchen. I’m grateful for the ingredients that ended up in my pots and pans, the warmth of the oven that gave life to my creations, and the team of culinary wizards who worked alongside me to create magic with food.”

De Nada Kitchen will close permanently after closing hours on Friday, February 24th. The restaurant will continue to operate from Wednesday to Saturday from 17:00 until closing until the last day. Chef Oz also plans to publish the recipe for his famous sangria to his regular email subscribers.

De Nada Kitchen & Market is located at 2123 Adams Avenue, University Heights, San Diego. For more information, visit denadakitchenandmarket.com.
