Dallas Zoo tightens security again; remembering the “fun” experience of visitors

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Two tamarins stolen earlier this month, have returned safely to their habitat at the Dallas Zoo. Their return after a two-week quarantine came as the zoo again announced increased security.

However, more cameras and additional fencing won’t affect the visitor experience, the zoo said.

“It is unacceptable for these multiple layers of security to be violated. It’s vital that this is a fun place for families and we need to do better,” said Sean Green, the zoo’s vice president of guest relations.

The Dallas City Council listened to zoo representatives as they shared plans to make the zoo safer for animals. Some board members said the February 21 meeting gave them confidence that the zoo would do the right thing.

Many of the changes add to the safety measures already in place at the 105-acre zoo. They are adding additional perimeter fencing improvements, expanding their ground camera system, enhancing motion-detection lighting, getting an external security expert’s assessment, evaluating their current site security provider, expanding their use of technology, and continuing to expand night time. police coverage.

Zoo officials told CBS 11 they don’t want the wildlife park to look like a prison, so they’re making changes to accommodate guests, especially families.
