Dallas Wings sign ‘elite’ shooter Kitia “Keith” Lax to the team ahead of the 2023 WNBA season
Laxa plays forward and was originally drafted to the WNBA in 2020 by the Seattle Storm with the 11th overall pick in the first round.
DALLAS – Another one! The Dallas Wings continue to build their roster ahead of the 2023 WNBA season with new additions to the team, Kitia “Kit” Laksa.
Laxa plays forward and was originally drafted to the WNBA in 2020 by the Seattle Storm with the 11th overall pick in the first round.
She is currently playing abroad with Bologna (Italy) and the Euroleague this season.
The 6-foot Latvian was recently named the Euroleague MVP for February, averaging 20 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists.
“Keith has established herself as a top player in Europe, both in Italy and in the EuroLeague,” Dallas Wings President and CEO Greg Bibb said in a press release.
Laksa was also a standout player for the University of South Florida and one of the school’s highest prolific scorers in the program’s history. She ranked sixth on the all-time scorers list (1,715), third in points per game (17.8), first in free throw percentage (89.6%), and second in three-point field goal percentage ( 39.1%).
Also while in the USF, Laxa was named to the American Athletic Conference First Team and led the NCAA in free throw percentage with 96.5%. She was the only player in Division I basketball to record two 40-point games, scoring at least 30 points in five games and at least 20 points in 18 games.
“She brings to our team a high basketball IQ, multi-position ability, high-level international experience and elite shooting. I’m excited to see her play show up in the WNBA and how she’s helping our club move forward,” Bibb said.
The Wings have made big roster changes this year with Laxa, as well as the recent signings/signings of some of the most prolific WNBA and All-Star players Natasha Howard, Diamond DeShields, Crystal Dangerfield and Kalani Brown.
The coaching staff also replenished with new faces, including head coach Latricia Trammell.
The Wings will begin their eighth season in North Texas with their first game on Saturday, May 20 against the Atlanta Dream. All team home games are played at the College Park Center in Arlington.
