Dallas weather: Roads freeze again at night, leading to dangerous driving conditions

After a day of melting on Thursday, temperatures dropped back below freezing overnight, leaving roads dangerously slippery on Friday morning.

Ice has caused several accidents on highways through the Metroplex, especially in the west.

Fort Worth police released a statement early this morning asking drivers to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.

“Traffic conditions have deteriorated significantly since yesterday’s sunset and roads have again been covered with ice, making travel extremely dangerous,” the statement said.

The Fort Worth Department of Transportation and Public Works and TxDOT say they are putting up barricades and sanding roads to make them passable for morning drivers.

Fort Worth police reported two fatal accidents shortly before midnight, one at the intersection of SH 360 and SH 183 and the other at the intersection of Martin Luther King Highway and East Berry Street.

There are also reports of several 18-wheelers stalled on the roads.

FOX Weather Group 4 says conditions should improve as the day progresses, with temperatures rising above freezing again at 9am.
