Dallas companies offer on-site babysitting to attract new workers

Annie’s Place, the non-profit organization that operates the Parkland Childcare Center for Patients, is expanding its services to include hospital staff.

Delancey Johnson, senior vice president and director of human resources at Parkland Health, says the success of Annie’s Place has led to more affordable childcare options for Parkland employees, with half of the seats reserved for low-wage workers.

“When you have people who have to come from their homes to brick and mortar, you have to make this trip worthwhile.” She said. “What can we call non-traditional resources? And Annie’s Place continues to rise to the top.”

Many childcare centers closed during the pandemic and have yet to reopen, creating affordability and accessibility factors that keep potential workers at home.

“Suddenly, childcare has become incredibly expensive! It’s just not affordable for a lot of people,” said Natalie Boyle, CEO and founder of Momies In Need. “And so providing such a solution changes everything for the family!”

Boyle believes that on-site babysitting can be an undervalued tool for attracting and retaining current workers, giving companies a competitive edge.
