The forecast includes an updated hazard matrix, which it categorizes as “extreme risk” for conditions expected Wednesday and Thursday, including increased wind gusts, flood watch that now includes the entire Bay Area, and an additional forecast from Friday to Sunday following a strong storm, which will last approximately 1 hour. -2 inches of rain in most areas.

Wednesday through Thursday morning will be the strongest storm, with heavy rain and strong winds, with gusts up to 35-55 mph in most areas and stronger gusts at higher elevations.

Flood watch will operate from Wednesday morning to Thursday evening, with rainfall expected from 2-4 inches in the valleys, 3-6 inches in the foothills and 8-10 inches in the coastal mountains.

The updated forecast includes an increase in total rainfall in several areas compared to the previous forecast released on Sunday:

  • San Rafael (4-6 inches instead of 3-4 inches);
  • San Jose (2–3 inches instead of 1.5–2 inches);
  • Livermore (2-3 inches, instead of 1.5-2 inches)

Two areas on the coast south of San Francisco could see slightly less rainfall than forecast. The revised forecast calls for 2-3 inches of rain in Half Moon Bay (up from 3-4 inches) and 3-4 inches in Santa Cruz instead of 4-6 inches in the previous forecast.

Forecasters predict that the region will see little to no rain on Tuesday, and this will be the last opportunity to clear Saturday’s storm before the next one hits.
