‘Crown Jewel’: Glow-in-the-Dark Inclusive Playground to Open in Texas This Summer

The Playground Gem will be located at Oran Good Park in Farmers Branch.

FARM BRUNCH, Texas. Farmers Branch is set to open a “one-of-a-kind” playground this summer.

Dubbed “The Gem of Playgrounds,” the new playground is called Joya and will be located in Oran Good Park, near the intersection of Josie Lane and Valley View Lane. Joya means jewel in Spanish.

The playground, due to open this summer, is described as a glow-in-the-dark inclusive playground that will be fun day and night.

The area will have an 18,000-square-foot main playground and a 7,000-square-foot playground, according to the city.

Main playground features include a 27-foot sphere with six levels of climbing, swings and slides, an obstacle course, and a zip line with interactive lights. Most of this area will be filled with LED lights.

Children’s playground for children from 2 to 5 years old will be fenced with two entrances with gates and equipped with playgrounds filled with light.

Joya was approved in November 2021. It will be funded by $4 million under the Federal American Rescue Plan Act and $750,000 in the Texas Parks and Wildlife Grant.

The city has not yet announced the park’s hours of operation, but said the goal will be to extend the park’s hours of use.
