Creepy Video: Man Shoots Blanks at San Francisco Synagogue

A shocking video captured the moment a man entered a San Francisco synagogue and fired multiple blank shots in front of stunned congregants after reportedly saying, “I’m going to show you something.”

The horrifying episode took place at the Schneerson Center, a synagogue frequented by predominantly Russian-speaking Jews, where a man entered at around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

He made several gestures in front of a group of people, pulled a gun from his jacket and fired blanks, as seen in a video released by KRON.

When an elderly man approached him, the militant saluted and left the synagogue.

Police later found the suspect, identified as Dmitry Mishin, 51, in Richmond County and charged him with multiple charges, including violating a religious gathering and brandishing a fake firearm, CBS San Francisco reports.

Rabbi Alon Chanukov called the incident a hate crime.

Mishin has been linked to social media accounts containing anti-Semitic propaganda and images of him wearing a World War II Nazi military uniform, according to the San Francisco Standard.

According to the publication, a Twitter account apparently owned by Mishin posted a video of something burning in front of the Schneerson Center.

The account was later posted image of a poster with the inscription “Achtung – Jude” (“Attention, Jew”). Mishin was also seen wear a uniform with a swastika and brandishing a hand grenade.

“Terrorism does not have to be accompanied by killings. In my opinion, he came and staged a terrorist attack. He came to terrorize people,” Chanukov told ABC 7.

“The action is terrible. For a stranger to come and shoot at your place of worship, your place where you should feel safe,” he added.

The rabbi said the suspect first spoke to the congregation in Russian and said something about the Mossad, Israel’s national intelligence agency.

“I believe it could have been when he said, ‘Say hello to the Mossad for me,'” Chanukov told the news outlet.

“So he somehow harmed the Mossad by intimidating the Jews in America in this one synagogue. I don’t quite understand. Obviously, I think that the person is not normal, the person is mentally ill,” he added.

The rabbi said the parishioners probably thought the man was a friendly visitor because he spoke Russian.

“You don’t take a gun, make sure the bullets are blanks, come to the Russian-speaking synagogue during the holiday weekly class on Wednesday, shoot it and say something about the Mossad just by coincidence,” he told ABC. 7.

The witness, who wished to remain anonymous, told the publication: “Here comes a guy, I ask him: “Do you speak Russian?” He said yes.’ I asked him: “Join us.” I didn’t hear it, but some people said he said, “I’m going to show you something.”

Despite Chanukov’s assertions, Mishin has reportedly not been prosecuted on suspicion of a hate crime.

Police said the day before the incident, Mishin walked into the nearby Balboa Theatre, brandished a gun and fled.

According to the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office, no one was hurt in both incidents and the suspect was held without bail.
