County crime suspect tries to hint at arrest by jumping into a canal

LEE COUNTY, Florida. On Wednesday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man after he jumped into the Cape Coral canal in an attempt to escape deputies.

Earlier this week, the LCSO investigated a burglary at Lehigh Akers. Personal belongings, including financial documents, were seized from this house.

These items were later found in Estero in a car stolen from North Fort Myers. The car was also found to contain stolen items from two other burglaries.

At the same location, police also found a stolen car in Collier County. They later learn about two other cars stolen from Collier; one of which was being actively tracked at Fort Myers.

The LCSO aviation unit began tracking the vehicle towards the Midpoint Bridge at Coral Point.

Citing two attempts to stop traffic, the suspect got out of the car and jumped into a nearby canal.

LCSO K9 deputies were able to stop the suspect, who was identified as Elijah Gapoor.

Gapur was taken into custody without further incident.
