Commemorative Brick Presented to Deceased Deputy First Class Christopher Taylor

FORT MYERS, Florida. Charlotte County Sheriff’s Deputy First Class Christopher Taylor, 23, was killed in the line of duty back in November when he was hit by a suspected drunk driver.

This has had an impact on many of our law enforcement agencies, not just here in southwest Florida, but throughout our state.

On Monday, his life was commemorated with a memorial brick that was added to the Fallen Officers Memorial at the Southwest Florida Public Service Academy … where friends, law enforcement and the community gathered in his honor.

Deputy Taylor’s life was cut short when he was killed in the line of duty by a suspected drunk driver the day before Thanksgiving.

His uncle, Christopher T. Schmidt, says the family is having a hard time right now.

“He was a very good person. He always wanted to serve and protect his community and the people around him, so he decided he wanted to go to the police academy.”

Two months ago, Deputy Taylor was buried and honored with a memorial in Charlotte County as thousands gathered across the state to pay their respects.

“There is an old Eskimo legend that says they may not be the stars in the sky, but rather holes through which our loved ones shine to know they are happy, so when you look at the night sky, try to imagine that.” Sheriff Bill Prammell says. .

Schmidt: “I think this brick ceremony is very good, because we can come back at any time and see all our fallen heroes.”

“I want to thank all of you for being here today to remember him, stay strong, stay safe and never give up and God bless you all,” Sheriff Bill Prammell said.

The brick for MP Christopher Taylor lying in the garden is now the 44th.th a brick to remember a life lost in the line of duty here in southwest Florida.
