Barnegat Light, NJ (Ocean) – In a daring rescue operation on Sunday near the Forked River in Barnegat Bay, the Coast Guard successfully saved four individuals and a dog from a sinking boat. The incident unfolded when a 29-foot Response Boat – Small crew from Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light noticed the distress signals of a 30-foot recreational boat submerged in water.

The Coast Guard crew, already underway for operations, swiftly maneuvered towards the scene of the incident, where they found the recreational boat struggling to stay afloat. The crew promptly initiated the rescue mission, successfully transferring all four occupants and their beloved pet onto the Coast Guard rescue boat. Moments after the transfer was completed, the recreational boat capsized, underscoring the urgency and effectiveness of the Coast Guard’s heroic efforts.

Chief Warrant Officer James B. Corbisiero, commanding officer of Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light, shed light on the potential cause behind the boat’s perilous situation, stating, “The boat’s owner suspects that a loose plug may have led to water infiltration. Following the successful rescue, the Coast Guard crew safely transported the four rescued individuals and their dog to a marina in Lanoka Harbor, New Jersey. A commercial salvage company was then summoned to right the capsized boat and tow it back to the same marina as well.
