City officials say the smell of sewage in Kingwood is due to a malfunctioning water treatment equipment.

The city of Houston denied that raw sewage was being dumped into Lake Houston.

HOUSTON. About half a mile from the waterworks at Kingwood, you can smell the pines.

But on Saturday the only smell was the sewers.

Some neighbors have called KHOU 11 to report that the plant is discharging sewage, but the city of Houston claims this is not the case.

Neighbor Jody Ellis said the smell had been in the area for about a month.

“It’s funny because in the morning, whatever they do, everything will clear up,” Ellis said. “But it’s stuck in your house, so you need to open windows and doors to flush it out of your house. And for these poor fellows in their apartments, they must be awful.”

Ellis told KHOU 11 that he believed the smell was coming from a discharge from a sewage treatment plant.

We contacted the Houston Department of Public Works to find out where the smell is coming from. The statement said that the strong smell of sewage was due to a malfunction of the equipment.

The spokesperson said that it had nothing to do with the water treatment process and raw sewage was never dumped.

She said that sewage did not enter Lake Houston.

We were told that the equipment malfunction should be fixed in the coming days.

Bad odors are just an inconvenience, not a health hazard, city officials say.

The city’s full statement can be read below:

“Raw sewage was not dumped into Lake Houston. Houston Water began investigating the issue on Wednesday after receiving questions. The strong smell of sewage was caused by a malfunction of the equipment, which is currently being repaired. wastewater treatment processes. Wastewater has been completely purified and continues to be purified. Houston Public Works encourages customers to call 311 if they have any drinking water or wastewater related questions.”
