City Hall asks for help from the Pine Hills community after a series of deadly shootings

PINE HILLS, Florida. — City Hall Thursday solicits input from the Pine Hills community ahead of legislative session and following a string of deadly shootings last week that killed a 38-year-old woman, a 9-year-old girl and a Spectrum News 13 reporter.

The 5:00 pm Christian Experience Center event will be hosted by State Senator Geraldine Thompson and State Representative LaVon Bracey Davis.

According to the post, Thompson and Davis are reaching out to the community with questions and concerns to be addressed in the upcoming 60-day legislative session.

This town hall arrived just over a week after Orange County deputies said 19-year-old Keith Moses shot and killed Natacha Augustin, T’onna Major and Dylan Lyons.

The deputies said that Moses fatally shot Augustine on Hialeah Street, escaped and returned a few hours later. Moses entered a nearby house and shot T’onna twice and her mother once before returning to the site of the first shooting, killing Lyons and injuring Spectrum News 13 photographer Jesse Walden.

According to the records, Moses had a long criminal history prior to the fatal shooting.

Earlier this week, Bracey Davis said she was hearing calls for change and responding to them.

“Unfortunately, the public prosecutor has two options. They can move forward with that child in juvenile justice, or they can move forward with the adult system,” Bracey Davis said.

Bracey Davis said the solution is not as simple as locking up the kids for longer periods. Her proposal in a new bill filed on Tuesday would see the court retain jurisdiction until the offender turns 21.
