Citrus farmers are hoping for more congressional support in the wake of Hurricane Yang.

Last week, the US House of Representatives and Senate introduced a bill that would allow the USDA to provide assistance to citrus growers in Florida affected by Hurricane Ian.

Congress has allocated $3.7 billion in aid to cover losses caused by hurricanes and other natural disasters. The proposed grant allows USDA programs to support specialty crops such as citrus damaged by natural disasters.

According to the University of Florida, the path of Hurricane Iana affected about 375,000 acres of citrus groves in Florida. Damage from Hurricane Yang to citrus growers in Florida is estimated at about $675 million.
