Church of England Makes Big Announcement About Same-Sex ‘Marriages’ – Leftists Will Hate It

Sometimes compromise simply prolongs the war—in this case, the culture wars.

According to the BBC, Church of England bishops will not support same-sex “marriages”. The decision came after five years of debate about the church’s position on sexuality.

But the discussion will not end there. The proposal of the bishops will be considered by the General Synod of the church next month. However, this discussion will not change anything – at least for now.

Several bishops have told the BBC that the church’s teaching that marriage is between one man and one woman will not change. The issue will not be put to a vote.

The conservatives will see this as a win.

On the other hand, “prayers of dedication, thanksgiving, or God’s blessing” will be offered for same-sex couples after civil marriage. Clergymen in same-sex relationships will no longer have to be celibate, as was mandated in 1991. And the Anglican Church will apologize for the “exclusion” of LGBT people, according to the BBC.

Liberals will likely see this as a win, but still not enough. They want it all.

It seems that the Church of England is trying to appease both sides of the dispute. I’m betting that this will not please either one or the other, but will simply prolong the culture wars that have been going on for decades. The desire to avoid conflict often leads to its escalation.

Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, senior Anglican bishop, acknowledged that the proposals “will seem to go too far for some and not far enough for others.”

Do you agree with the decision of the bishops?

“This response reflects the diversity of Church of England views on issues of sexuality, relationships and marriage,” Welby said, according to The Associated Press. “I rejoice in this diversity and welcome this way of reflecting it in the life of our church.”

Looks like Welby plays both sides. What happened to strong leaders who stand up for their beliefs?

The LGBT contingent is already promising to keep fighting.

Charlie Bell and Piotr Bacsik live in South East London. Bell is a priest. According to the BBC, they were waiting to get married until the church allowed same-sex weddings.

Bell said the couple felt “deeply disappointed” with the decision. “This leaves same-sex couples in some limbo, as well as second-class citizens. … We still tell gay couples that their relationship is less than that between people of the opposite sex.”

“It’s not over yet,” Bell said. “If the bishops think that this will solve the current situation, they are greatly mistaken.”

Jane Ozann, a prominent LGBT advocate in the church, called the bishops’ decision “completely despicable,” AP reported.

“Can’t believe five years of pain and injury brought us here,” Ozann tweeted. “Over the years, we have received countless apologies but have taken no action to stop harmful discrimination.”

After all, you can’t have both. Not everyone can win. To claim that marriage is between a man and a woman—as Christianity has done from the beginning—and at the same time pander to homosexuality by blessing same-sex unions smacks of hypocrisy.

It’s simple and clear. I suspect the LGBT camp will use the bishops’ decision to ignite their own war against all things traditional. Conservatives will see the compromises as a failure.

Nobody wins. Compromise between diametrically opposed parties breeds only contempt, not peace.

I wonder how many members of the Anglican Church would be happy about this?
