LOCATION: Valhalla, New York or Houston, Texas

Organization: The mission of the Children’s Environmental Literacy Foundation (CELF) is to make sustainability an integral part of every child’s education in a K-12 school. Our approach is holistic, engaging students, teachers and administrators, parents and guardians, communities and businesses to drive school-wide transformation through professional development, experiential learning programs, and community partnerships. CELF is a small non-profit organization led by a team of passionate professionals. Growing demand for our services has opened up new opportunities that require creativity to expand our impact and strategic fundraising. This position is an exciting opportunity in a rapidly evolving field dedicated to some of the most pressing issues of our time.

Summary: CELF is looking for a Communications and Development Manager who has 3+ years of experience in communications and/or development, ideally in a leadership position in a fast growing non-profit organization and covering communications areas such as event marketing, social media, website. content and newsletters, and development areas such as communicating with donors, working with donors, and writing grants.

Detailed description: Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Communications and Development Manager will set and direct the strategy for all communications, websites and public relations messages and marketing materials to consistently articulate the mission of CELF to a wide range of stakeholders. The Communications and Development Manager will also support the Executive Director in addressing development priorities such as working with donors, seeking grant opportunities and writing grants. The Communications and Development Manager will ensure that CELF is seen as the primary source, disseminator and conduit of information within this diverse network and constituent base. The Communications and Development Manager will collaborate with peers on a variety of strategic educational, fundraising and marketing initiatives.

The communications and development manager is responsible for executing an integrated strategic communications plan that consistently strengthens the organization’s brand and messages to key audiences and strengthens the organization’s position as an industry leader. This key audience includes K-12 educators and administrators, education policy makers, and a range of corporate, foundation and individual donors.

The ability to take knowledge and transform it into compelling, relevant messages and distribute it to the right audience through the best distribution channels is critical.

Specific requirements and responsibilities:
Communications
● Refine and implement the organization’s strategic communications plan, manage the overall brand and messaging, and deliver it through the appropriate channels.
● Web Site: Current web content management.
● Social Media: Monitor relevant external activity and manage all CELF accounts including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube.
● Newsletters, fundraising materials, program materials, press releases: writing and supervising the production of written promotional materials – both electronic and printed, as well as multimedia content.
● Database Management: Work as a key person to maintain a database of contacts management, including program participants, potential participants, partners, donors and potential donors.
● Program Communications: Keep in touch with current and former teachers and administrative members to track progress, receive citations and anecdotal stories, and develop case studies.

Development
● Donor Development: Supporting the Executive Director in building relationships with existing and potential donors.
● Grants: Research, write and edit grant applications in collaboration with the Executive Director.
● Reporting to donors. Support gifting programs and assist the CEO in ensuring that reports are delivered to sponsors in a timely and accurate manner.
● Fundraising Events: Supporting fundraising or donor development events, including but not limited to cocktail parties, lounges and panel discussions.

General
● High energy, maturity and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and position communication discussions at both strategic and tactical levels.
● A sincere commitment to working with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants and other supporters.
● Independent, entrepreneurial and able to work independently, who likes to create and implement new initiatives.

Qualification:
● This position is looking for a dedicated professional with excellent written, verbal and visual communication skills.
● Bachelor’s degree/equivalent experience in communications, marketing, public relations and/or fundraising/development.
● Knowledge of MS Office, Google suite, email marketing and social media.
● Experience with donor database is a plus.
● Photo and/or video shooting and editing skills are a big advantage.
● Commitment to change the world for the better – environmental experience, K-12 education and/or social justice is a plus.
● Proficiency in Spanish is a plus
● Direct experience in the non-profit, educational and philanthropic sectors is preferred.

Watch: Underemployment; flexible schedule, hybrid options for remote work / work in the office are possible.
Salary range: $45,000 to $60,000 depending on skills and experience, with $55,000 to $60,000 range representing more than 5 years of directly relevant experience and demonstrating the desired qualifications.
