Child Escapes Moving Vehicle After Awakening to Thief Behind the Wheel, According to SAPD

San Antonio Police are currently on the hunt for a light-colored, older model Lexus four-door, after a 10-year-old boy from San Antonio executed a daring escape from the family car when he discovered it being driven by a thief. This heart-stopping incident unfolded at approximately 7 a.m. on Thursday, after the vehicle was stolen from a gas station located along the 11000 block of I-35. According to police sources, the boy’s father had left his son sleeping in the back seat of his Lexus, while he went inside the convenience store to attend to his gas pumping needs.

Upon returning to the scene, the father was confronted with a shocking reality – the car was gone, and his young son was presumably still inside. Fortunately, in a display of remarkable courage and swift thinking, the child managed to escape from the moving vehicle approximately a mile away, before seeking refuge at a nearby car dealership. The potentially disastrous situation was witnessed by Daniel Carretero, who happened to be stopped at a red light when he noticed the very same vehicle pulling up next to him.

In a bewildering turn of events, Carretero recounted the young boy suddenly leaping out of the back seat, visibly frightened and unsure of where to seek safety. As the traffic light turned green, the thief accelerated away, leaving the child stranded amidst the chaotic flow of vehicles. Carretero, overcome with concern, regretfully admitted that he was unable to stop as he had to drop his own children off at school. However, he promptly returned to the area after completing his responsibilities, determined to aid in the search for the missing child. Simultaneously, he contacted the police to report the incident.

A few minutes later, Carretero received a call from the authorities, informing him that the child had been found safe and sound. The emotional reunion between the boy and his father undoubtedly brought immense relief to both parties involved. Meanwhile, the San Antonio Police remain actively engaged in their pursuit of the stolen car – a light-colored, older model, four-door Lexus.

In light of this alarming incident, law enforcement officials are urging residents to exercise caution and avoid leaving their cars running unattended. Instead, it is crucial to always ensure that keys are taken and doors are locked before vacating the vehicle. By adhering to these preventive measures, individuals can significantly reduce the risk of falling victim to such unfortunate circumstances.
