Charlotte County dog park closes after infected dog

CHARLOTT COUNTY, Florida. Charlotte County officials say the dog park at Ann and Chuck Dever Regional Park is closed for cleaning.

According to a press release, public services closed the park as a precaution after a visitor reported their dog was infected with bordetella.

Bordetellosis is one of the most common respiratory infections in dogs, caused by the bacterium Bordetella bronchiseptica, which invades the lung tissue. It is spread by aerosol spray, such as when coughing or sneezing, from a dog’s mouth or nose.
