Chaos breaks out in the middle of an NBA game – 5 players ejected after big brawl

Five players were sent off Friday night after fighting during an NBA game between the Orlando Magic and the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The fight broke out late in the third quarter when Timberwolves’ Austin Rivers and Magic’s Mo Bamba started swinging at each other.

By the time the chaos was over, Rivers, Jaden McDaniels and Taurian Prince of the Timberwolves had been ejected, as had Bamba and Jalen Suggs of Orlando, according to CNN.

Rivers said after the game that a comment from the Minnesota bench after he missed a 3-point try provoked the fight.

“I just heard some foul language on their bench, just from one dude – he also said something in the play before,” Rivers said.

“I’m not going to go into what he said, I’m not going to denounce the dude or anything like that. I just didn’t like the way he talked to me, also for no reason,” he said.

Rivers said there was nothing foreshadowing the incident.

I don’t even know this dude. I don’t know anything about him. Obviously, I just know he’s a Magic player. And he kept talking, so the next time I went there, I just said, pretty much, “Just be respectful, bro,” Rivers said.

Do you agree with the decision to fire the players?

“I’m not trying to be some tough guy, it’s not even my duty, but for everyone who knows me, I won’t let someone disrespect me or say crazy. I just feel bad about being kicked out of the game and I feel like I let my team down and in the process two other guys who are important players for our team were also kicked out and I feel really bad.” He said.

“When someone stands up like that and hits you in the face, you know it can happen in one of two ways. He hit and missed, and then someone grabbed me … by the neck, ”he said, referring to Suggs.

Timberwolves coach Chris Finch said the outliers don’t fit the crimes.

“Their guy came off the bench and threw a punch. Pretty egregious. Then comes hand-to-hand combat, and somehow our guys are punished much worse. One guy was sent away for not being a peacemaker. I just watched the movie and didn’t see any difference between what their guys were doing and what our guys were doing,” he said, according to ESPN.

Orlando players said they were protecting their teammate.

“Obviously you want your teammate to cover for you and at the same time you have to be professional,” said Orlando center Moritz Wagner.

“So this is a challenge for a young team like us. I think we did a good job this time compared to last time. So yeah, I really don’t know. It’s a strange dynamic. You really don’t want to be in those situations and it’s not the best kind. You want to be professional. At the same time, there is something in me that appreciates that the team is so close-knit,” he said.

Magic player Markelle Fultz said that Bamba’s comment to Rivers was “normal trash, nothing disrespectful or crazy”.

“It was just… people were talking nonsense when someone was shooting from the side,” Fultz said. “We just had fun talking [trash]. The same thing they do on their side. I don’t know if it was something [Rivers] had an affair or something like that, but he got really angry and that’s what he decided to do to get revenge. I don’t think Mo did anything crazy or said anything crazy.”

Orlando won the game 127-120.
