Catch the Valentine’s Day vibe in this romantic osteria – plus 4 new places to fall in love with

This Valentine’s Day you can have your own Lady and the Tramp moment in a brand new location in Cow Hollow. Calabrian restaurateur Francesco Covucci unveiled his newest establishment, Il Casaro Osteria, just days before the San Valentino holiday. The restaurant combines the best of three North Beach establishments run by Covucci and his partner Peter Fazio – Il Casaro Pizzeria, Barbara Pinseria & Cocktail Bar and California Fish Market – i.e. pizza, pasta and seafood.

As Covucci told The Standard, he and Fazio decided to expand to Cow Hollow – on Union Street near Webster – after two more Italian restaurants closed there. “We fell in love with the place, the street and the people and we really believe we are going to add value to the area,” Covucci said.

With a wood-fired oven in tow, Covucci’s Naples-style pizza will be at the center of the menu, complemented by pasta dishes like the 4-hour slow cook ziti genevese and spaghetti alla citarra with peppers and grated black truffle. He said that he imports most of the ingredients from his own country.

First of all, Covucci described his new osteria as accessible, accessible, and homely. “We welcome everyone, regardless of their budget,” Covucci said. “A pasta dish shouldn’t cost more than $20 or $22, and I’m here to prove it.”

Also, Okaeri Japanese Bistro, a brand new hot pot and omakase establishment in Mission, has just opened its doors. We have been itching to try their menu since we met with the owners in December.

The second establishment, Per Diem, offers several new dishes. We especially like tuna with tonnato sauce, anchovy cream sauce, olive oil, mayonnaise and lemon juice.

San Francisco is familiar with Moroccan cuisine, from the Michelin-starred Mourad to Marrakech and the hookah lounge at Tenderloin, we recognize a tagine when we see it. Now the Marina is the last place for couscous and cafta, as L’mida has just settled down the street from Souvla and Delarosa. Decorated with traditional Moorish gifts, the café combines Moroccan and Californian cuisine for brunch and dinner – bastilla, lamb chops and, of course, hot mint tea.

There is something special about the roof view. Cavaña, a brand new cocktail bar at the top of the LUMA Hotel, offers a panoramic view of the bay and delicious agave-based drinks. The Central and South American bar is the brainchild of John Park of KAIYŌ, Novela and Whitechapel and Anthony Parks, former beverage director at Mourad.
