Cape Coral father sentenced to 30 years for starvation death of son

LEE COUNTY, Florida. Cape Coral father Ryan O’Leary was sentenced to 30 years in prison for starving his young son Ezra O’Leary back in September 2019.

The police report said the boy weighed only 17 pounds (8 kg) and was about the size of a seven-month-old baby.

O’Leary has declined to challenge one of the counts of aggravated manslaughter and will be required to register as a lifelong sex offender.

Two other children, aged 3 and 5 at the time, were found to be in a similar state of malnutrition. The third child, who was 11 at the time, lived out of state and was the focus of a previous DCF abuse investigation.

No contact with victims.

His wife, Sheila O’Leary, was convicted of first-degree murder back in June.
