MIAMI – Royal Caribbean International has launched a search for iconic artists to bring the Caribbean spirit to the iconic canvas, which is the world’s best family vacation, Seas icon. In the newArtist Discovery Program,” Up-and-coming artists from places visited by cruise ships can compete to have their work displayed by millions of vacationers who will be sailing for years to come.
The aim of the program is to infuse the spirit and culture of each region into the carefully curated onboard art collections to highlight and celebrate the very places and people at the center of an unforgettable Royal Caribbean vacation.

Royal Caribbean International is launching a new “Artist Finder Program” starting with a Caribbean edition that will debut on Icon of the Seas in January 2024. “The Artist Discovery Program is a project close to our heart at Royal Caribbean International because the destinations we visit are family. And it’s only fitting that we start looking for promising artists in the Caribbean; this is where we started over 50 years ago,” said Michael Bailey, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International. “Vacationers want to immerse themselves in the places they visit. This is a way to highlight the beauty of the local cultures and people in the places they see and enjoy every day on their cruise, starting with large-scale canvases of a first-of-its-kind adventure – Seas icon“.

The first group of emerging artists, which made up Artist Discovery Program: Caribbean Editionwill be commissioned to paint nine large-scale murals in three well-marked places: V royal promenade area, the heartbeat of a new ship; among the first attractions that guests see on Icons main entrance; and within Lux Area. Each piece will evoke the vibration of the Caribbean Sea., join the onboard collection, which will include many items created by Caribbean artists or inspired by the region.
Eligible Grant
Each artist will receive a grant from the cruise line ranging from $20,000 to over $100,000 to realize their vision. Later this year, the winners as artists in residence will work closely with Royal Caribbean’s iconic ship newbuild team to bring their ideas to life in Turku, Finland, where Icon is under construction.

To compete for a place in the first edition of the Artist Discovery Program, artists must submit the following:
Five Concept Work Samples: The work must be original and cannot currently be published or on display.
A brief statement by the artist that helps explain their work, inspiration, and other details regarding the work presented.
Copy of their resume.
