California Native Football Team Raises Money to Travel to Hawaii Tournament

SAN DIEGO (CUSI). The California Native Football Team is raising money to travel to a tournament in Hawaii.

The team is made up of 40 local student athletes from San Diego North County and Riverside County.

They have influenced a significant number of our Indigenous youth over the years, sending many of them on their first ever airplane flights and exposing them to many different places and people, thus providing these underprivileged and single children with an experience which we hope will last. for life.

Their all-volunteer coaching staff includes Keith Vasquez (San Pascual Indian Reservation), Mike Mendoza (Rincon Indian Reservation), Shona Shalu Jr. (San Pascual) and Adam Pinkcock (Valley Center), Josiah Gucenio (Reservation Rincon). We plan to attend a total of 12 tournaments for the 2023 season.

They don’t charge for their kids to play on the team and rely solely on donations. All donations go to pay for uniforms, registration fees and travel expenses.

The team joined the KUSI Good Morning San Diego program to introduce themselves and share information about their athletes.
