Broward County officials declare two-day cold weather state of emergency and set up homeless shelters

Weather forecasts show temperatures dropping this coming weekend, and Broward County officials are urging residents to brace for biting winds.

Broward County leaders declared a two-day cold weather emergency from Friday 6:00 pm to Sunday 9:00 am.

Officials planned to open shelters for the homeless.

The Salvation Army, located at 1445 W. Broward Blvd., and Hope South Florida, located at 1100 N. Andrews Ave., will be open for those in need of shelter during these aforementioned hours.

When temperatures drop, residents may want to take out heaters that could start a fire, so homeowners are being reminded to keep them in a safe place and turn them off when not in use.

Remember to protect your pets and plants.

Any changes in the weather will extend or cancel shelter hours and will be announced no later than 13:00 each day.
