Brookhaven Supervisor Romijn and Board Member Paniko Celebrate Gertrude “Gertie” Haas’ 99th Birthday

Recently, Brookhaven City Manager Ed Romijn and council member Dan Paniko visited the Mastic Recreation Center to celebrate the 99th birthday of Gertrude “Gertie” Haas (center).

A resident of Mastic Beach since 1996, Gertie was born in Brooklyn on February 13, 1924. She married her husband John on Christmas Eve 1943. They were married for 57 years and were blessed with three daughters, 10 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Family and friends say that Gertie has a great sense of humor, a sweet smile and is always ready to give a hug. She loves to play bingo and cards, especially poker.

During their visit to Gertie, Supervisor Romijn and council member Panico presented her with a Brookhaven City Council resolution declaring February 13, 2023 as Gertrude Haas Day in the City of Brookhaven.
