Brightline train crash kills pedestrian in Delray Beach

A tragic accident occurred on Monday night in Delray Beach involving a Brightline train and a pedestrian, resulting in one fatality. The Delray Beach Police Department spokesman, Ted White, confirmed the news and stated that a thorough investigation is underway regarding the crash at Northeast 14th Street and North Federal Highway, located to the west of Dixie. The scene of the accident has been cordoned off, with police exploring all possible leads to determine the cause of the mishap.

According to a post on Twitter from the police department, Old Dixie Highway has been closed in both directions from the 1600-block to the 2300-block. The public is being advised to avoid the area as law enforcement officers carry out their investigations. No further details have emerged about the circumstances of the accident and the identity of the victim. The incident has left the community in a state of shock and grief.

Notably, the Florida East Coast Railway tracks, frequented by both Brightline and freight trains, are located west of Dixie Highway. It is unclear if the tracks had anything to do with the accident. However, incidents of this nature involving accidents on railway tracks are not entirely uncommon.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time that a tourist destination like Delray Beach has experienced a Brightline related tragedy. On February 8, two individuals lost their lives after a Brightline train collided with their SUV. The accident occurred at Lindell Boulevard and Old Dixie Highway, leading to the shutdown of the surroundings in all directions. The Delray Beach Police Department posted a tweet stating that the SUV had been on the track when the train heading southbound struck it. Earlier on the same day, a freight train had moved through the exact spot.

The number of such incidents involving Brightline trains is on the rise, which could point towards a need for enhanced safety measures. The Brightline railway line stretches from Miami to West Palm Beach. It remains to be seen what action will be taken by the authorities to address the issue and ensure public safety.
