Brightline to start testing 110 mph trains in Palm Beach County

WEST PALM BEACH, Florida. Drivers in Palm Beach County may experience some delays in February as Brightline continues to work to expand its services in central Florida this year.

The company announced that it will begin trials of 110 mph trains in northern and central Palm Beach County as early as February 11 and will continue through March.

Testing will take place in Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens, North Palm Beach, Lake Park, Riviera Beach and West Palm Beach.

Brightline officials said the tests would take place daily from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Flaggers will be present at level crossings when active testing takes place in the area.

The testing is expected to result in increased waiting times at level crossings.

Brightline said they are improving security at all of their 156 level crossings along the corridor. Where trains will travel at speeds in excess of 79 mph, crossings have quadruple gates or dividers to prevent motorists from avoiding the crossing’s lowered gates.
