Brevard County teacher arrested for attempting to seduce child for sex, MPs say

BREVARD COUNT, Florida. – According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, a high school teacher was arrested after deputies said a man tried to seduce a student for sex.

MPs said Timothy Liscum, 64, from Melbourne, a teacher at Satellite High School, traveled to a location in Brevard County to meet his child.

According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, Liskum was taken into custody Sunday afternoon and charged with using a computer to seduce a child and driving to a meeting after using a computer to seduce a child.

Liscum has worked in Brevard County schools for the past 30 years, deputies said.

The investigation began earlier this week after the Satellite Beach Police Department asked for help with the investigation, the report said.

The complaint stated that Liskum was communicating via an electronic device with one of the students at the school. According to the deputies, the student became worried about the content of the conversations and told another student about it, as well as the teacher.

The deputies said that the teacher passed the information to the school administration, which contacted the student’s parents, the report said.

The deputies said an agent for the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Registration and Tracing (SORT) took over the online identification of the child, and during subsequent conversations, Liscum coaxed the student to meet with the “purpose of sexual relations,” according to the release.

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey posted a message on Facebook saying, in part: “It’s disgusting that monsters like this exist where they can prey on our children, but fortunately a student, her friend and our teacher, in this case everyone did exactly what had to be done to hold this man accountable!! A huge thank you to the teacher for being such a confidant to the students, to the members of the Satellite Beach Police Department for their efforts in investigating and of course Agent Steak for everything they did to put this man behind bars!! ”

Liscum is currently being held at the Brevard County Jail on $70,000 bail.

MPs said the investigation is ongoing and they are trying to determine if Liskum may have been the victim of other children.

Anyone who may have information about Liscum is asked to call Agent Aya Steak at 321-633-8410 or CRIMELINE at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).
