Boerne firefighters discuss their crucial role in battling Texas wildfires
A devastating wildfire currently ravaging the Texas Panhandle has now earned the dubious distinction of being the largest in the state’s history. The inferno has claimed the lives of at least two individuals and has left a trail of destruction spanning an area larger than the state of Rhode Island. The Smokehouse Creek Fire, the primary culprit behind this catastrophic event, has consumed over 1 million acres of land, with containment efforts lagging at a mere 3% as of Thursday evening.
Amidst this environmental crisis, additional wildfires have encroached into western Oklahoma, exacerbating an already dire situation. In response to the escalating threat, firefighters from the San Antonio area have been deployed to the frontlines, with the San Antonio Fire Department dispatching six firefighters on the ground and two on standby.
