Blue Ocean Sushi Opens New Location at Westfield UTC San Diego

February 3, 2023

A third branch of Asian-American fusion restaurant Blue Ocean Sushi will open later this year at San Diego’s Westfield UTC mall in La Jolla.
Over the years, husband and wife restaurateurs James and Jenny Pio have founded local eateries such as Love Boat Sushi (San Marcos and Oceanside), Harumama Restaurants (Little Italy, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Point Loma, La Jolla), Blue Ocean Robata & Sushi Bar. (Carlsbad, La Jolla), Blue Smoke Sushi (Fashion Valley Mall), two Pokewans, and an offshoot of Harumama Teriyaki & Bao in Karlovy Vary. In 2019, they opened their most ambitious project yet, the combined concept of Harumama Noodles & Buns and Blue Ocean Robata & Sushi in a 5,000 square foot space located above La Jolla Shores, where The Hake previously housed.

The Pio family has signed a lease for the 4,434-square-foot restaurant space that previously housed the Smokeyard BBQ & Chop Shop at Westfield UTC Mall for the new Blue Ocean Sushi branch. Expect the space to transform into a modern sushi eatery and offer a dedicated menu of Japanese-American cuisine including appetizers, sushi, fried rice, bao buns, soups, salads, and a wide selection of main courses. There will also be a full bar with cocktails, beer, wine and sake.

Blue Ocean Sushi is expected to open in late 2023 at 4313 La Jolla Village Drive, Suite 2265, in University City San Diego. For more information, visit blueoceansushibar.com.
