‘Blissful to be alive’: Watch the couple escape the van and run into a ditch to take cover from a powerful tornado

Dramatic video shows the couple racing to overtake tornado in Texasjumping into a ditch looking for cover.

Zachary Peck-Chapman and his partner are happy to be alive after they had to flee their van to seek shelter during a tornado in Orange, about 30 minutes from Beaumont along Texas.Louisiana the border.

The National Weather Service published tornado warning in the area around 4:30 p.m. local time on Tuesday, as a string of severe storms swept through the city. The agency alerted residents to the life-threatening situation and immediately took cover.

In the midst of the chaos, Peck-Chapman managed to document himself and his partner escaping from their van with their dogs as they dive into a ditch at Country Livin’ van park.

“The scariest moment of our lives” Peck-Chapman wrote about this on Twitter. posted along with the video.

He said he was aware of the warning in the vicinity, but did not feel it was safe to travel in such weather.

While it may be tempting to try and outrun a tornado, this is not the smartest choice. The path of a tornado can change in an instant, sometimes changing direction randomly. You can drive away from a tornado when it suddenly rushes your way.

THIS IS WHAT YOU SHOULD DO IF YOU ARE DRIVING AND THERE IS A TORNADO ON THE GROUND

The best course of action if you spot a tornado while driving is to stop and find cover. If there are solid buildings around, enter one of them and go to the lowest level without windows. If there is no such shelter, find the lowest place on the ground, such as a ditch or culvert, and lie down with your head in your hands.

“We are happy that we survived and our tiny motor home was not damaged,” he said.

Only minor damage was reported at the RV park, Peck-Chapman said, and the owners stepped out immediately to help transport campers back to their units.

Severe weather line spawned at least 14 tornado reports across southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana Tuesday afternoon, causing damage and injury. Fortunately, no deaths have been reported.

The same line of powerful severe storms that hit the Houston area in southeast Texas is currently moving through southeast and is expected to affect areas from the north Florida to the East North Carolina.
