Blaze Engulfs Home on Cranbury Road in West Windsor

On Sunday, June 30, 2024, at 10:41 a.m., a concerned resident in West Windsor, NJ, alerted the Communications Center to a potential fire at a neighbor’s residence on Cranbury Road. The West Windsor Police Department swiftly mobilized a comprehensive response team, including the West Windsor Division of Fire & Emergency Services, Princeton Junction Volunteer Fire Company, West Windsor Volunteer Fire Company, Plainsboro Fire Company, Princeton Fire Company, Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad, Lawrence Rescue, East Windsor Tower, and Hamilton Fire Department.

In a coordinated effort, the aforementioned agencies descended upon the scene to combat the escalating blaze, prompting the closure of Cranbury Road between Millstone Road and Sunnydale Way for approximately 2 1/2 hours. The West Windsor Police Department’s Drone Unit provided aerial support in identifying and addressing hot spots, aiding the firefighters in their battle against the inferno. After a strenuous two-hour struggle, the fire was successfully brought under control, with full extinguishment achieved, hot spots included, after four hours of relentless efforts.

Upon containment of the fire, Sgt. W. Jones and Det. Crawford collaborated with West Windsor Fire Marshal Jamison to commence a thorough investigation into the origins of the blaze. Initial assessments indicated that the fire had originated in the basement of the unoccupied residence, though the exact cause remained undetermined and non-suspicious pending further inquiry. The property sustained significant damage, prompting the resident to seek alternative shelter arrangements, while thankfully, no injuries were reported among the dedicated First Responders.

Chief Garofalo expressed his gratitude to all the responding agencies for their swift and effective cooperation in navigating the challenging hot and humid conditions to ensure a safe resolution to the incident. The collective efforts of these first responders underscored their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the community in times of crisis, exemplifying courage and resilience in the face of adversity.
