Black bear sighting shuts down section of Disney World’s Magic Kingdom
Parts of Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom have been temporarily closed due to a black bear sighting, causing inconvenience for visitors seeking to enjoy the park’s attractions. Lisa Thompson, a spokesperson for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, confirmed on Monday that officers and biologists from the bear management program were actively involved in efforts to capture the bear.
Thompson emphasized that in typical cases, bears are best left undisturbed to navigate their surroundings independently. However, given the current circumstances, staff members are diligently working towards capturing and relocating the bear. Witnesses reported spotting the bear residing in a tree within the confines of the Magic Kingdom.
Explaining the bear’s behavior, Thompson noted that during the autumn season, bears become more active as they scavenge for sustenance to accumulate fat reserves for the approaching winter. Hence, it is likely that this particular bear was merely passing through the area in search of food.
As a result of the bear sighting, Disney’s park application displayed extensive wait times for various rides on Monday afternoon. In order to ensure the safety of visitors, several sections of the park were temporarily closed. These areas include the beloved Big Thunder Mountain, the Liberty Square Riverboat, Tom Sawyer Island, Fantasyland, and Frontierland.
The closure of these iconic attractions has caused frustration among park-goers, who had hoped to enjoy a day filled with magical experiences. However, park authorities are prioritizing the safety of both visitors and the bear, aiming to resolve the situation swiftly and efficiently.
