Big Night in Brownsville (Miami) feat. Haint Blu

MIAMI – Living Art Miami presents the world premiere Urban Bush Women (UBW) latest dance and theater performances, Hight Blue in Miami with immersive viewing experience Historic Hampton HouseMarch 9-12.

Visitors will also enjoy local food and drink vendors and the opportunity to tour the restored hotel and museum.

The culmination of a multi-year project commissioned by Live Arts Miami, Hight Blue honors local black history by remembering the movements, magic, and stories of the Brownsville community, using performance as a focus and source of healing.

“It was very exciting to create a performance featuring Urban Bush Women in Miami that is adapted to this incredibly historic space that speaks directly to the black experience in our community,” said Katherine Garcia, Executive Director of Live Arts Miami. “Viewers can look forward to a magical evening with surprises around every corner.”

Featuring the iconic all-female ensemble Urban Bush, as well as a prestigious team of visual artists, designers, musicians, and writers, as well as Miami-based artists and movers, Hight Blue provides an immersive and interactive experience.

Performers will activate various spaces in the historic Hampton House, which was once the “Social Center of the South” and meeting place for black luminaries such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Sammy Davis Jr., Duke Ellington, Nancy Wilson, Louis Armstrong. , Laverne Baker, Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali.

“Hight Blue aims to bring viewers to rest and rest through movement: remember, restore, let go and restore, ”said Mame Diarra Space, co-artistic director of UBW. “Hampton House is especially important as it contains many stories and stories about Miami’s black community. It’s important to be aware of these stories and honor the safe haven this place has been for many people over time.”

UBW’s socially relevant work lifts the perspective of stories that aren’t necessarily being told to a mainstream audience. Each local history Haint Blu show is a collection of moments that are unique to each community.
