Biden will still give an interview to Fox before the Super Bowl game

The president’s interview during the Super Bowl pre-game show has become something of a tradition over the past two decades.

NEW YORK — After a day of mixed signals, President Joe Biden will sit down for a pre-game interview for the Super Bowl, broadcast by Fox on Sunday.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre initially said that Biden was “looking forward” to an interview with little-known streaming service Fox Soul, but Fox declined.

Fox Soul was launched in 2020 and is aimed at black viewers.

Later that day, a spokesman for Fox Corp. reported that the interview had resumed.

“After the White House contacted FOX Soul on Thursday night, there was some confusion,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “FOX Soul is looking forward to interviewing the president during Sunday’s Super Bowl.”

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The president’s interview on the pre-Super Bowl game show has become something of a tradition over the past two decades, usually hosted by the newsroom of the network broadcasting the game.

In 2021, Biden spoke to CBS News anchor Nora O’Donnell before a game, and last year spoke to NBC News’ Lester Holt.

There was some questioning what would happen to Fox, whose opinion the hosts are constantly pecking at Biden on the air. Fox News hosts have interviewed the president in the past: Bill O’Reilly interrogated Barack Obama in 2011 and 2014 and Donald Trump in 2017. Sean Hannity interviewed Trump in 2020.

It wasn’t immediately clear who would be in line to speak to Biden, and how Fox Soul entered the picture.
