Bexar County man suspected in “heinous” child abuse sought by authorities

A 5-month-old infant is recovering from extensive injuries sustained as a result of suspected ongoing child abuse allegedly by a partner of the baby’s mother. Sheriff Javier Salazar described the acts as “heinous,” and the mother, Jeida Rogers, has been arrested. Authorities are searching for the partnering suspect, Corey Alexander Berry, who faces charges of serious bodily injury to a child.

The investigation began after Rogers brought the infant to a local hospital with a fever last Friday. Upon arrival, the baby was found to have suffered multiple fractures, including fractured ribs and vertebrae, as well as bite marks to the face. A toxicology report later revealed that the baby tested positive for THC.

Sheriff Salazar expressed astonishment at the extent of the baby’s injuries, saying, “It boggles the mind…The number of injuries this baby sustained…I can only imagine the amount of pain and suffering this baby was exposed to.”

According to authorities, Rogers attempted to blame a relative for the abuse. However, investigators discovered that Berry, the baby’s on-again-off-again partner, was responsible for the injuries. Salazar stated that Rogers was not fully cooperative and played a direct role through her omissions in the ongoing abuse of her child.

Berry has a history of aggression towards the baby, which resulted in Rogers breaking up with him in the past. However, for unknown reasons, Rogers returned to Berry. The abuse is believed to have occurred over several weeks, and while the infant is expected to recover physically, Salazar emphasized that the baby may suffer long-term effects.

Rogers has been charged with serious bodily injury to a child through omission and was arrested on Friday. Her bond has been set at $35,000. Anyone with information on Berry’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
