Behind Michelin Star Of Italy magazine awards Cori Pastificio in San Diego top award for Italian restaurant

Leading Italian food and wine publisher Gambero Rosso awarded San Diego’s Cori Pastificio with the highest accolade that only five Italian restaurants in the entire country have received.

Like France’s Michelin Star Awards, Italy’s Gambero Rosso celebrates the best Italian restaurants around the world every year. Each year, judges travel to nearly 30 countries, judging over 400 Italian restaurants based on their food, wine selection, service and atmosphere. This year, the Italian food and wine magazine awarded Cori Pastificio in North Park with its top Three Forks award, representing restaurants with the highest culinary experience, authenticity, exceptional service and an expertly crafted wine list.

Hailing from Sicily, Chef Accurcio Lota first came into the culinary spotlight when, at the age of 18, he was selected to represent his school in a national culinary competition. Accursio moved to California when he was 22 to work at the Biltmore Four Seasons Hotel in Santa Barbara, where at one point he hosted a fundraiser for then-presidential candidate Barack Obama at Oprah Winfrey’s home. The first restaurant where Accursio cooked in San Diego was The Marine Room in La Jolla Shores. In 2012, Accursio and his wife opened an underground gourmet restaurant club called Limone, where they designed seasonal-themed pop-ups.

In November 2012, Accursio became Executive Chef at Solare Ristorante at Liberty Station, where during his tenure he has received numerous awards and accolades, including winning the 6th World Barilla Pasta Championship in 2017 and the prestigious Three Gamberi by Gambero. Rosso. In December 2019, Chef Accursio opened Cori Pastificio, a Sicilian-style Italian restaurant and pasta shop in the North Park, with a menu focused on freshly prepared pasta and Italian appetizers. In December 2020, Gambero Rossi announced that Cori Pastificio was the new 2020 discovery. Cori Pastificio also received top honors last year.
