Barbados hotelier has high hopes for Caribbean tourism market

BARBADOS – Former President of the Caribbean Hotel, Tourism and Tourism Association (CHTA) Patricia Affonso-Dass believes that the 41st annual Caribbean Tourism Exchange will be held in Barbados May 9-11 may be a defining moment for a travel company.

The Barbados-based hotelier who manages Ocean Hotels Group on the island said: “The Caribbean Travel Marketplace is of particular importance this year because “it represents and demonstrates our region and association’s ability to transform, change and reinvent to meet ever-changing needs, demands and the realities of this dynamic industry.”

For only the second time in its history, the event will be held in the Eastern Caribbean.

Affonso-Dass noted that the new format of the event gives hoteliers and tourism stakeholders the opportunity to not only connect with buyers and hotel providers in the region, but also “highlight the connection with artisans, manufacturing, agriculture and smaller but critical enterprises.” important players that form the backbone of Caribbean tourism.”

Affonso-Dass, who served as president of CHTA from 2018 to 2020, said the association’s 33 Caribbean destinations reflect diverse cultures, languages, cuisines and a phenomenal collection of experiences.

“The Caribbean Travel Marketplace allows us to bring it all together and present the region to our partners and the world in a way that is very difficult to do alone,” said Affonso-Dass, born in Dominica, raised in Guyana and now lives in Barbados.

“Each of our members is unique, special and compelling, but overall this region is of great value and importance not only to our individual economies but also to the revenues of the partners who sell the Caribbean – both land based and cruising.” remarked the respected hotel owner, inviting the whole world to come and do business at 41 Market Square in Barbados.

The Marketplace will be preceded by the second annual Caribbean Tourism Forum, which will be held at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.
